We had to let the current flagship model of the Mercedes-Benz range the right of way when presenting Carlsson's tuning programs for the three-pointed star brand, even though we covered their tuning packages for the CLA a few days ago.
For some unknown reason, Carlsson only unveiled the non-AMG tuning program for the compact Mercedes, reserving the 450 hp tune for the CLA 45 AMG only, despite that model sharing its powertrain with the mighty A 45 AMG.
The changes are mostly cosmetic, with a new front spoiler being available for both the standard A-Class and for the AMG sport version. The side gets new side skirts that can fit any A-Class, as does the new rear apron, which includes an air diffuser.
The AMG Sport version gets special grilles for the air outlets on the rear apron and the two side vents on each side of the rear diffuser are hugging the four polished tailpipes of the Carlsson sports exhaust silencer – which, by the way, gives an aditional three horsepower.
There is also a sportier, lowered suspension and even a fully-adjustable coil-over kit which allows the user to change the car's ride height, bounce and rebound settings.
Carlsson offers a choice of Diamond, Graphite, Titanium and forged Ultra Light rims in 18, 19 or 20-inch versions, while the A-Class' interior is almost completely customizable in terms of leather type and dashboard inserts.
The only engine modifications are currently available exclusively via the Carlsson C-tronic CB Plug&Drive module, which connects to the factory ECU via an adapter plug.
With the kits, the A 200 delivers 187 hp and 300 Nm (221 lb ft) instead of the standard 156 hp and 250 Nm (184 lb ft), while the A 250's output rises to 253 hp and 420 Nm (310 lb ft) instead of 211 hp and 350 (258 lb ft) of torque.
