The Audi RS5, the BMW M4 and the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG had better watch their backs, because Lexus is bringing a hot new car to market and it promises to tick a lot of boxes.

Now, the Japanese luxury maker has had two semi-interesting two-door models in its lineup, the SC convertible and the IS convertible, but this is altogether more uncompromising car.

Rumor has it that this car is going to be called the RC and that it will be a sporty coupe to replace the retractable hardtop IS from the last generation. It will reportedly debut in November at the Tokyo Motor Show and in early 2014 as the performance-oriented RC F you see in these photos.

The styling is different from the 2014 IS sedan and resembled the LF-CC Concept shown last year. The familiar spindle grille is instantly recognizable despite the heavy camo, but the headlights have a masculine flat brow and the fenders are flared and vented at the front. Letting us know about its performance ambitions, the prototype has a quad exhaust pipe arrangement we've seen on the IS F in the past.

Power for the standard model will come from the existing 3.5-liter V6, hopefully with a bit more power, but this RC F will have a much more impressive 460 horsepower (or so) from a 5-liter V8 engine.
