The Fastest Jeep Cherokee in the World Is an 8s Street-Legal Machine

While Jeeps such as the late 2000s WK Grand Cherokee are no strangers to the drag strip, even outside the US, to meet a 90s XJ Jeep Cherokee at the drag is a rare occurrence. Nevertheless, the example we are here to talk about is not your average Jeep since this is the fastest Cherokee in the world.

To get an idea of just how extreme this Jeep is, we’ll tell you this much: when manhandled correctly and in the right conditions, the Cherokee can pull an 8.44s quarter mile at 164 MPH (264 km/h). For the record, that’s the kind of performance that would leave a LaFerrari about 1.5s behind.

Interestingly enough, this is a street-legal machine. Under the hood, we have a 505 cubic inch Chrysler Mega Block V8, which is aided by not one, but two stages of nitrous. In fact, the owner likes to do what we call three-dimensional driving. He hits the first nitrous shot and, once the front wheels are back on the ground, he switches to the second.

The story of the car

The man owns a repair shop in Maryland, which does explain a lot. For instance, he was ready to blow through multiple transmissions in his quest to impress the speed trap. And he did. After blowing more than just one TorqueFlite transmissions, he now uses a Proglide box.

Further down the power line we find a Ford rear end. You have to understand that, when you’re building something like this, you’ll have to take care of every little detail yourself.

What happens when you try to cut corners? Well, for instance, you car could “have a death wobble at 150 MPH.”

The modification story started when the owner got the car for a lady who had entered his shop in order to get a headlight fixed. The price? 250 dollars.
