The Alpine Coaster Is the Best Replacement for Knee Dragging in Winter

We know that during winter time some riders are becoming frustrated because of the cold weather and snow is forcing them to go cold turkey and lock their bikes in the garage. Some are lucky enough and have their dirt bikes equipped with spiked tires, or have friends who do, and they can get a ride any time they want. For those who are afraid to pit their skills against the frozen trails, it’s either sit and sigh until spring arrives, paying occasional visits to the garage and caressing, or try other high-adrenaline things.

Now, it may be that a ride on the Alpine Coaster at the Park City Mountain Resort in Utah is not exactly like a fast run in the canyons and is also far from the adrenaline rush of a track weekend. However, if you have the opportunity to try it, this looks like a truckload of fun.

It’s hard to estimate a speed for this descent, but comparing this Utah track with others we saw in say, Austria, it is not that fast. People riding downhill without using the brakes have been able to reach past 42 km/h (26 mph). The guy riding this coaster mentions 60 mph (~96 km/h) but we believe this is exaggerated, an illusion caused by adrenaline and cold.

Anyway, the speed seems to be just enough to make your heart beat faster and the low temperatures, the proximity of the snow and maybe several mugs of mulled wine, can definitely make everything way more fun than one suspects in the first place. Of course, you can also wear your motorcycle helmet for more realism.

Hmm, the cart would look really trick with a motorcycle handlebar on it, don’t you think?
