Exactly a week ago, Hyundai released some official photos of its latest creation, the Ioniq, but there was no picture with the car’s face. Now, the South Korean carmaker revealed the alternative-fuel compact vehicle in all its splendor.
The automaker teased us for months with this long-awaited car, and now that it has finally arrived, Hyundai Motor is one step closer to becoming the global number two in the green car market.

The launching event announced the start of new future mobility and our will for technological innovation to the world. Hyundai Motor will spearhead efforts to become the global number two in the green car market by introducing over 22 models in the eco-friendly car line-up by 2020. Ioniq has been developed incorporating all of our technological capacities. The hybrid, pursuing the highest efficiency in its class, is economically efficient and stays true to the fundamentals of a car by delivering the fun to drive through a modern design and dynamic driving performance,” said Moon-Sin Kwon, Vice Chairman at Hyundai Motor R&D Center.

The Ioniq plans to stand out with its coupe-like silhouette, for better airflow, and active and passive aerodynamic features that place it among the most aerodynamic cars on the market.

Hyundai’s newest eco-friendly vehicle embodies a number of safety connectivity features, such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as an extensive list of safety features that protect the driver and passenger, including Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keeping Assist System, Lane Departure Warning System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and seven airbags.

Based on an exclusive new platform, the Ioniq incorporates three electric powertrains in a single body type. The car is powered by a freshly developed 1.6 GDI four-cylinder Kappa engine and a 32KW electric motor. Combined, the two powertrains are capable of 141PS and 265Nm of torque. They are all linked to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission for improved performance and fuel economy.

The new model has been already launched in South Korea and is expected to reach Europe at the Geneva International Motor Show, and the US at the New York Auto Show, both in March 2016.
