The last BMW M235i commercial published on BMW’s official Youtube channel shows the new car head to head with its spiritual predecessor, the BMW 2002tii, in a Olympics styled video.
The thing is, in the commercial, the M235i was shown receiving the baton from the 2002tii to keep things going for the next few years in what looked like a relay competition and starting up in reverse, going in front of the older model, doing a J-turn and continuing to go forward.

That’s the intriguing part. Could that part be real or not? The guys from BMW Germany decided to prove that what we saw wasn’t CGI and that it was all for real.

Therefore they invited two of the best stunt drivers in their home country to do the, by now famed, J-Turn to the test. The cars they used were exactly as the ones used on camera. The M235i had the 8-speed auto onboard while the 2002tii came prepared just as it was in the 70s.

In the end, the two drivers delivered and proved not only that it’s possible to do the J-Turn as shown in the video but it’s also doable with an automatic gearbox.
