Tesla to Develop Self-Driving Car Within Three Years
Speaking to the Financial Times newspaper, Musk announced that the car will be 90 percent autonomous and will be developed by Tesla Motors alone, without any kind of technology supplied by another company.
“We should be able to do 90 percent of miles driven within three years,” he said, adding that a fully autonomous car would take too long to develop. “My opinion is it’s a bridge too far to go to fully autonomous cars. It’s incredibly hard to get the last few percent”.
Tesla Motors is not the only company that is working on self-driving cars. General Motors and Nissan have announced plans to introduce semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles respectively by 2020, while Google is still looking for partners interested to join such a project.
