Tesla Roadster Sport New Photos

American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors released today a few photos, details and prices for the Tesla Roadster Sport, an upgraded version of the now famous Roadster. The sport boast, according to official figures, 15 percent more power than its predecessor and will have a price set in the 112,000 euros range ($128,500).

The increased power comes from a simplified motor, shaving 0.2 seconds from its 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time, which is now done in 3.7 seconds. The motor revs at 14,000 rpm and releases into the atmosphere zero emissions. The Roadster Sport comes with a hand-wound stator and better winding density for lower resistance and higher peak torque.

Transferring the power to the road is the responsibility of Yokohama UHP (Ultra high Performance) tires, which come to compete an improved suspension that features adjustable dampers and anti-roll bars.

This car can beat nearly anything in its price class - yet it is twice as efficient as compact hybrid sedans,” Michael van der Sande, Tesla’s senior vice president of global sales, service and marketing said back in January, when the new model was first previewed. “If you refuse to compromise on performance or the environment, the Roadster Sport is your only option.

Tesla is on the way of becoming perhaps for high-performance EVs what Ford Motor was for the automobile industry in the early 1900s. The company recently announced it is moving its headquarters from San Carlos to Palo Alto, a new location which will house Tesla's offices, engineering and research staff and a powertrain manufacturing facility that will employ around 350 employees.
