Tesla Motors Hires Jon Sobel

American electric car manufacturer Tesla is making major changes in its corporate structure these days. After yesterday the company announced the addition of John Walker and Ricardo Reyes, today Tesla signed Jon Sobel, currently group president for media of SourceForge. Sobel will take the office "sometimes in September" as general counsel and board secretary.

Jon really understands how to solve the challenges of a fast growing, international consumer technology company. His high tech background serves as a good complement to the auto industry expertise on the Tesla team, consistent with our strategy is to recruit outstanding talent from both industries. I particularly liked that he managed Slashdot, one of my favorite sites,” Elon Musk, Tesla Ceo said in a release. “Jon will provide invaluable counsel on complex issues at the nexus of law, finance, communications and public policy."

Sobel had a long career in media, as he worked six years as top executive for Yahoo. Later, he joined CBS as vice president of strategy and business development and was partner at San Francisco-based law firm Folger Levin & Kahn.

Tesla already serves as an industrywide example that an automaker can create a successful business model while being socially and environmentally responsible,” Sobel said. “I’m thrilled to be joining such an exciting company at the beginning of its rapid growth phase.

Back in July, Tesla announced it achieved overall corporate profitability and is now getting ready for the start of production of the Model S. The addition of the three new executives will help Tesla promote and manage its future business.
