Tesla Motors might be a young company, but its quick rise to the top of the automotive world happened in just 12 years, and there's no sign of lifting their foot off the throttle.
You might think that a dozen years of history is not much when you have carmakers like Ford, Chevrolet and Aston Martin. But, as they say, it's not the years in life that counts, but the life in your years. So Bloomberg decided to include Tesla Motors' history in 143 seconds of video footage.

Watching the video is an excellent opportunity for petrolheads to test their knowledge of the automotive world, in the green electric cars category. For example, did you know that in 2003, Tesla Motors was founded by friends and engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning?

Also, Elon Musk, the name that pops up whenever Tesla Motors is mentioned, became chairman of the board and lead investor a year later, in 2004, helping the company raise $7.5 million. Musk was named CEO in 2008, the year Tesla celebrated their fifth birthday and by this time, the entrepreneur reportedly had invested $70 million of his own money into the company.

He was also the principal figure behind the Tesla Model S all-electric luxury sedan, and we have no doubt about our readers' knowledge on this EV. Also under Musk's reign, Tesla was the first American car company to go public since Ford.

We'd be happy to tell you more about the history of Tesla Motors and the people involved in it, but by doing that we would spoil the video below. So click play and enjoy a crash course in Tesla Motors history.
