Tesla Model X Has a Sudden Case of Uncontrolled Acceleration, Driver Claims

Tesla might have opened up a can of worms with the launch of smart features on its cars as people seem more and more inclined to blame any crash on one of the vehicle's features going rogue.
We've seen it happen with that guy who slammed his Model S into a parked trailer while using the Summon feature, and the woman from California whose Autopilot system failed to brake when the car in front of her had stopped, and in some of these cases, the driver might have a point. But this incident beats them all, and there are quite a few reasons for that.

Looking at the images, we'd say it's a good thing Tesla made an SUV because the Model S wouldn't have been able to go all the way here. Instead of hitting the building, it probably wouldn't have made it past that rock. However, this incident from Florida suggests otherwise, so maybe people were right all along and SUV are indeed useless.

Back to the case at hand, this too happened in a parking lot while the owner was trying to find a spot for the car. Puzant Ozbag had this white Tesla Model X for just five days, which isn't exactly helping his case since it might suggest he wasn't yet familiar with the car's controls. But let's not make any assumptions and just tell the facts.

But facts are hard to come by, especially at this moment when al we have is Puzant Ozbag's version of the story: “Our 5 day old Tesla X today while entering a parking stall suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated at high speed on its own climbing over 39 feet of planters and crashing into a building," he wrote in a forum post.

“The airbags deployed and my wife’s arms have burn marks as a consequence,” he continued. “This could have easily been a fatal accident if the car’s wheels were not turned slightly to the left. If they were straight, it would have gone over the planters and crashed into the store in front of the parking stall and injured or killed the patrons.”

“The acceleration was uncontrollable, seemed maximum, and the car only stopped because it hit the building and caused massive damage to the building.”

We've never experienced an uncontrolled acceleration, but we do know that in the war between the acceleration and braking system, the latter always wins. Even if the car did decide it wanted to recreate the police precinct scene from Terminator with the help of that building, unless the brakes were deactivated, all the driver needed to do was slam them. This is what makes us believe that Ozbag simply made a huge mistake here, and is now trying to blame it on Tesla. What he doesn't seem to know is that the company keeps logs of every vehicle, so the case should be quickly cleared.
