Tesla Model 3 Interior in Broad Daylight Looks like Something's Missing

You've probably heard the expression "less is more" more (sic) times than you would have liked to, but that's just because people like the sound of it and use it when they shouldn't.

As far as Tesla Model 3's interior in concerned, that's probably the best way to describe it. The cabin is far from finished - in fact, Tesla insists we shouldn't discuss on what we see in the existing prototypes, but we're going to live a dangerous life and do exactly that - but from what we can see, it's clear the interior designers' brief was "take everything that's not vital out of there and make it as clean as possible."

Apparently, the only few vital things are the seats, the steering wheel, a large touchscreen placed horizontally in the middle and, of course, two cup holders. People must have their coffee/soda (and, in the future, even beer if you consider Tesla's claims that all Model 3s will be capable of full autonomous driving).

The result is probably the biggest talking point surrounding Tesla's upcoming EV. We all know Elon Musk's company is perfectly capable of making a fast and safe electric car that also sports an unbeatable maximum range. Well, that last part might be challenged by Chevrolet Bolt's 238-miles, but we expect the base Model 3 to at least match that number.

Back on the inside and the car's customers are going to be expected to take an important leap of faith. 400,000 of them already had by placing the $1,000 deposit, and we're pretty sure there are quite a few others lurking with their hands on their wallets, waiting to see how all this pans out.

And the interior is most likely their biggest fear. Not everybody is ready to let go of all traditional controls and access everything via an admittedly large screen or voice commands. Most people are still hoping for some kind of a head-up-display, and Tesla's actions seem to suggest that will be the case.

Way back in March, Musk described Model 3's controls as being "spaceship-like," and even though we're not big fans of Sci-Fi movies (this is us trying not to look like geeks, and probably failing), we don't see any resemblance yet.

Not having an instrument cluster right in front of you frees up a large part of the windscreen, giving the driver better visibility without having to jack-up their seat. However, until autonomous driving becomes the norm, most people will like to have some of the essential information such as speed or sat nav directions posted somewhere in front of their eyes.

This latest photo - posted by an anonymous person and shared by Electrek - shows the car with the new steering wheel mounted that's definitely an improvement over the first one, but should still not be regarded as a final version. Musk is expected to host a third and final unveiling stage soon, and everyone thinks (hopes?) this one will focus on Model 3's interior.
