Tennessee Plant Opening to Double Leaf Sales, Say Nissan
However, this may all change once production of the Leaf starts in Nissan’s Smyrna, Tennessee factory, thus giving sales a boost and, perhaps, allowing Nissan to reach its sales target of 20,000 by March 31st, 2013. US production of the Leaf may also reduce manufacturing and parts costs, and thus maybe one will be able to slice a good few grand off the asking price - as one would try to do when buying a ‘normal’ car.
The new plant will begin to churn out Leafs in December, and the factory has a capacity of 200,000 cars and 150,000 battery packs per year, so it should have no problem keeping up with demand (if it rises, that is).
