TEMA Household Waste Collection Day: Numbers Are In
According to TEMA, 1,000 people from three counties accepted Toyota’s challenge for a better environment. In one day, TEMA collected enough paint to spray on 20,000 Toyota Camrys (10,000 gallons) and enough oil to be used to fill up 1,900 Toyota Corolla engines (900 gallons).
“Our first Household Waste Collection event was a tremendous success,” said Kevin Butt, General Manager of Environmental Engineering at TEMA. “We’d like to thank our partners, volunteers, neighbors and the community for their participation.”
“Our event demonstrated that Northern Kentucky cares about the environment and that people are willing do to the right thing for our community. Toyota is happy to do our part.”
The event was also endorsed by Battery Solutions, Bluegrass Recycling, Blue Rhino, Close The Loop, Covington Reuse Center, GES, Green Metals, NKY Drug Strike Force, NKY Haz Mat/WMD Response Team and United Waste Water.
Together with TEMA, aside for the materials mentioned above, 72 appliances and 83,000 pounds of electronic waste have also been collected form households.
This is not the first time Toyota gets involved in eco-friendly initiatives. Last November, the carmaker joined the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WasteWise program, the first national waste reduction program aimed at waste prevention, recycling and buying or manufacturing recycled products.
