For a car thief starting to make a name for themselves in the field, stealing a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat must be the best imaginable heist they could hope for.

The Hellcats are some of the best modern interpretations of what an American muscle car is all about: raw power and zero intentions to make any apologies about it. But how much power, exactly? Well, more than these three teens from Kansas City were able to handle, that's for sure.

The three youngsters aged 16, 17, and 19 managed to break into the Napleton Mid Rivers Dodge dealership at 1:30 a.m. Friday morning and stole four vehicles. Two of them were a pair of red Dodge Charger SRT Hellcats, and a third was a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. All three of these vehicles were crashed, two of them having been completely written off. The fourth suspect got away.

Melissa Doss, the St. Peters police officer talking about the case, could barely contain her bemusement when she mentioned the fact they made it less than a mile away from the dealership. Mr. Frank Schaffer, however, the dealership owner, found it a little more difficult to see the funny side of it. He is now left without three of the most expensive cars in his shop. Well, they were insured so it's not exactly a question of direct loss, but he will face a hard time getting replacements from Chrysler.

It’s going to take several months to replace before Chrysler will give me allocation to replace them, so this one left is kind of special,” Mr. Schaffer told FOX2 St. Louis. He also had a message for the three boys: “What were you thinking? You’re going to get caught. You just want to ruin your life before you have a chance to get it started?

Well, the dealership owner's advice came a little too late for the three. They are now under arrest and facing multiple charges including burglary and receiving stolen property. The younger of the two will be trialed by a juvenile court.
