US Army GSPEL to Test Hybrid Tanks

The US Army's Ground Systems Power and Energy Laboratory (GSPEL) broke ground on Monday, on a new 30,000-square-foot facility for testing military ground vehicles. The facility will be used for the evaluation of different military vehicles, including the HMMWV and, never would have guessed, hybrid-electric and fuel-cell military tanks. GSPEL is expected to become operational in approximately two years and will contain eight engineering laboratories for evaluating hybrid electric components, advanced energy storage devices, fuel cells, heat exchangers and air filtration systems.
