Prior to the official unveiling for the European market at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show this autumn, Korean manufacturer Kia has released details of their star engine for the Sorento line-up, the so-called R unit. The R engine, which will be available in two versions (a 2.0l and a 2.2l) has been developed, according to kia-buzz.com, to become the world's best high-powered eco-friendly diesel engine in its segment. Taken separately, the 2.2l version develops 145 kW (194 hp) and 436 Nm of torque, with its smaller counterpart developing 135 kW (181 hp) and 392 Nm of torque, making it "class leaders in comparison to similar offering from Toyota, Mercedes Benz, BMW and Volkswagen."
