A 2003 voluntary agreement signed by most car manufacturers (GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Kia, Mazda, Daimler, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Suzuki, BMW and Volkswagen) is beginning to take shape, as most of the vehicles produced by the aforementioned carmakers will be equipped with side airbags as standard starting September 1, when 2010 model year begins. "This voluntary agreement is actually a model for responsible action on behalf of automakers to improve occupant safety," Dave McCurdy, Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers CEO was quoted as saying by detnews.com.
