TagAZ Vega Production Resumed

After Ford said this week that its Russian plant will run at full capacity, we have more good news from Russia. According to RBC Daily citing a plant spokesman, Taganrog Automobile Plant (TagAZ) has resumed production of its Vega cars after a one month of suspension.

TagAZ suspended production of its new model Vega at the end of October for unknown reasons. Speculations were made that the company was forced to shut down production by a court order accusing the Russians of copying the Chevrolet Lacetti sedan, but TagAZ officials denied the rumors. Still the coincidence seems a little bit awkward, as at the end of October, a court from South Korea found the Russians guilty of copying a car design registered to GM Daewoo. The court banned the car from production.

This scandal got serious as two GM DAT managers got arrested. They were accused of selling information to TagAZ. One of them was accused of stealing 6,000 computer files which contained data about the Lacetti, said just-auto.com.

Despite these facts, the Russians say the production was stopped due to delays of the parts suppliers. According to a source inside the plant, production started on Tuesday and the plan is to produce 500 cars by the end of December. Yelena Larina, plant representative, said there are no official bans on the production of the Vega.
