Most people we know who wanted a €40,000 convertible with good fuel economy bought a 320d Convertible, so much is expected of this new one. BMW is risking it all and moving both two-door compacts into new territory, naming them the 4 Series.
To be honest, the old 3 Series Convertible isn't much of a looker, but people still buy it because it's a BMW and because it's got a huge folding metal roof. Not much can be said about this prototype's appearance, since it's all covered up, but if the 4er concept shown in Detroit is any indication, we're in for a treat.
The car will be quite big, almost as big the old F13 6 Series, you should have no trouble taking four people on short journeys.
The engines on offer will exclusively be 4- and 6-cylinder turbo units available with either a standard six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic. We've heard the 4 Series Convertible will be built exclusively by the BMW US Manufacturing Company.
