Suzuki has shared the first photo and initial details of its all-new Vitara model. It will make its official debut on October 2nd on the show floor of the Mondial de l'Automobile in Paris, pricing and technical details expected to come at that time.
With a design inspired by the iV-4 concept shown in 2013, it looks futuristic enough to get noticed. Suzuki describes this as a small SUV, but considering last year's concept measured only 4.2 meters in length, we expect the Vitara to be comparable to a large crossover, like the new Nissan Qashqai, which measures almost 4.4 meters.
Sales in Great Britain will begin in the spring of 2015. Suzuki has promised to offer both petrol and diesel engines, ALLGRIP intelligent four wheel drive being an optional extra. We expect the two 1.6-liter engines from the SX4 S-Cross to carry over.
The soon-to-be-outgoing Grand Vitara offers a large 2.4-liter petrol engine, which is the only one in the range offered with an automatic. However, since the company has pulled out of the US market, we expect this to be dropped from the lineup.
Nissan, Honda and Toyota might have Japanese brand names, but because they are large companies with global businesses, their SUVs are 100% Western. Not so with the new Vitara, which has a distinctive Asian flavor to it.
The styling looks like it's been puled from a comic book and in typical Japanese fashion, the clamshell hood looks like it's been copied off a Land Rover.
