Japanese automaker Subaru is looking to improve US sales by offering more luxury trim levels for its current vehicle lineup.
Subaru's goal also wraps around the 2014 Forester cross/utility vehicle, and could include more upscales version. "Luxury is certainly one of the opportunities with profit potential", said Ken Lin, director-product management in an interview.
The Japanese are considering new models, first on the list being a larger three-row CUV with more interior space. Basically, they will try to fill the segment the Tribeca model failed to up until now.
While announcing new luxury trims for the already existing lineup, the company is dismissing the idea of competing with the likes of BMW or Mercedes-Benz, as well as plans to create a separate luxury division.
"We could do touring-editions of products but would not be competing with BMW or Mercedes. There is no move to create another brand," added Ken Lin.
