Subaru’s Forester is a very capable vehicle, which combines the handling of a sports saloon, with the four-wheel drive grip of a rally car, as well as some light off-roading capabilities and the load lugging capacity of an estate. It is greatly appreciated throughout the world, so a new version of the Forester is a very big deal for the Japanese automaker.
Now in its fourth generation, the Forester is slightly longer, taller and wider, and it also sits on an extended wheelbase. However, none of these factors have affected the way it looks, and while it may feature some more modern styling cues, it’s still clearly a Subaru Forester.
The Japanese version of the car will be available with a 2.0-liter boxer engine with 148 hp, or a turbocharged 2.0-liter boxer with 280 hp, which is only available with a CVT, while the former can also be specified with a six-cog manual. American buyers will also be given the choice of a 2.5-liter boxer, with 170 hp, while a the turbocharged 2.0 will be detuned to produce 250 hp.
The new Forester goes on sale in Japan on November 13, and ‘the West’ will get its first taste of the new car at the Los Angeles Auto Show, on November 30.
