The United States automotive sector is already showing the first signs of recovery and Subaru of America is the first example as the US division of the Japanese manufacturer posted the best June sales ever, with 18,620 units sold in June 2009 versus 18,007 units sold in June 2008. Specifically, Subaru's sales were up 6 percent over May 2009.

And speaking of records, both the 2009 Legacy sedan and Impreza managed to set new sales record in June. The Legacy had an increase of 28 percent in sales over June 2008 while the Impreza improved its figures by 24 percent. Forester was the best-selling model in the whole range, with 6,090 units delivered to consumers in June.

Impreza was the second best-seller (5,041 delivered units), followed by Outback (3,721 units) and Legacy (2,984 sold cars).

"The June sales record is a fitting close to a first half in which Subaru held record market share," said Tim Colbeck, senior vice president of sales, Subaru of America, Inc. "Our June results confirmed the strength of the Subaru brand, our AWD vehicles and the Subaru dealer network. With our product line-up firing on all cylinders, we expect to continue performing well as we begin to ship the new 2010 Legacy and Outback models this month."

"Our franchise continues to outperform the market as our retail organization is focused on presenting our customers with the safety, value, reliability, durability and fuel economy that our award-winning line up of AWD products represents," said Tom Doll, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Subaru of America, Inc.
