Subaru BRZ STI to Race in Japan Touring Car Championship

Just when we thought there was nothing more to hear about the Toyobaru, the FT-86 Club comes to the rescue with fresh info of a motorsport application. According to a Japanese source, the Subaru BRZ will race in the 2012 Super GT class in Japan, and the way we understand it is that it’s an STI model.

The Super GT series is sometimes know as the All-Japan Grand Touring Car Championship or JGTC, and is recognized by the FIA. The races take place at famous Japanese venues like Twin Ring Motegi, Fuji Speedway, and Suzuka Circuit. They are held as a single endurance event and the cars are divided into two groups - GT500 and GT300, capped to 500 and 300 hp respectively.

It’s understandable thus that we are dealing with a turbocharged version of 2.0-liter boxer engine that develops 300 hp.
