Subaru BRZ Prices Slashed by £2,500 in the UK

Subaru UK has just announced that prices for the BRZ sportscar will soon drop by a very significant £2,500 starting on May 1st. The 2014 model will thus start from just £23,995 (on-the-road) for the SE Lux model with manual transmission and £25,495 for automatic models.
The Subaru BRZ is quite unique in its layout. However, even it has to compete for customers' attention and money, which in Britain has proven quite tricky. But the price reduction is about 10%, so it's well worth looking into the boxer sportscar now. With a 2-liter naturally aspirated engine mounted low in the car and perfect weight distribution, it could be just what you need to have fun.

For about £24,000, you can buy a reasonably fast Caterham SuperSport R. Despite having just 180 hp to the BRZ's 200, it's going to be faster and more agile. However, most people will buy the BRZ as their one and only car, so having no roof means the Caterham is out of the picture.

Most BRZ prospective buyers will come from the hot hatch market, which is where things really get interesting. For £23,495, Ford UK can offer you a very nice Focus ST-2. It not only has the 250 hp turbocharged 2-liter engine, but mid-grade equipment also includes Recaro seats, auto wipers and headlights and dual-zone climate control.

However, the BRZ SE is not exactly spartan either. It comes with Alcantara and leather trimmed seats and Torsen rear-axle differential. The Focus ST uses brake assist to handle its extra power.

Rear-wheel drive versus front-wheel drive, it's really down to personal preference. But if you're going for the former, the BRZ is the buy of the moment.
