Not too long ago, the Subaru BRZ recorded a 7.3 second time for the 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) sprint, with the vehicle being tested by Edmund’s Inside Line. This, of course, brought disappointment, as the time placed the sports car behind most hot hatches and other sports cars. However, it seems that the Japanese coupe can do better.
The BRZ has now recorded a 0 to 60 mph sprint time of 6.4 seconds, when it was tested by Motor Trend magazine. Of course, since we have a huge gap of almost 1 second between the two times, an explanation is required.
Inside Line said that the BRZ doesn’t manage to hit 60 mph in second gear, with the limiter kicking in at 59.2 mph (95.3 km/h) and thus it was necessary to shift into third gear in order to complete the test. However, Motor Trends doesn’t mention such an issue.
We have to add that setting up the gearing this way really wouldn’t make sense and thus we tend to believe the new time is closer to the real one.
The two publications might have used different methods and encountered various environmental conditions, with another proof for this being the fact that Inside Line recorded a quarter mile time of 15.3 seconds at 92.1 mph (148.3 km/h), while Motor Trends managed to get a time of 14.9 seconds at 95.5 mph (153,75 km/h).
