If the team of high-school students that managed to build the most efficient budget electric vehicle amazed you, wait until you see what these college students created - the fastest accelerating electric vehicle.
A team of 30 students from ETH Zurich and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts worked hard enough and made their Formula Student single seater beat the 0 to 100 km/h record for an electric car.

The Formula E-looking car recently achieved a 1.785 seconds run for the standard sprint, managing to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 30 meters (98 ft) after being challenged by rivals of the Delft University of Technology with their 2.134 seconds milestone.

The students named their creation “grimsel” and along a monocoque lightweight construction it uses four in-wheel electric motors summing up to 200 hp. That’s tiny compared to the torque these things offer, rated at a total of 1,630 Nm (1,202 lb-ft).

Using advanced traction control systems, all the torque is controlled individually on each wheel to maximize the acceleration of the 168 kg (370 lb) carbon fiber car. Just floor it and the electronics will make sure you’ll be stuck to the seat for the following seconds.

There’s no other production vehicle in the world at the moment to beat the grimsel, and you can easily see why in the video bellow. And no, there are no fast-forward trickeries in it...
