Going on a motorcycle road trip is one of the best therapies invented, but before leaving, do plan it a little bit to make sure you don’t get nasty surprises on the way. And start with your luggage first.
It is a known fact that the most amount of luggage you can carry on a street bike sums up to a wallet and a chocolate bar, you can store them under the seat. And with rucksacks being uncomfortable on longer rides, it’s time to upgrade to other types of luggage systems.

Hard cases are the best since most of them are pretty cavernous and if you pair two of them with an extra top case you can basically go live on the road. But, they are bulky, don’t look that cool and you can’t usually fit them to a sportbike or a naked.

Luckily, there are more solutions and come as textile, waterproof bags you can fit on the tank and the tail of the bike. They come in a variety of shapes, with multiple pockets, washable interior liners and different type of mountings.

Speaking of mountings, pay attention to that because not strapping your luggage to the bike properly might set you up for a screwed up experience. And even a crash could occur if one of the straps gets caught in the chain, sprocket or the rear wheel itself.

The guy in the video here is an example of what could go wrong, and thankfully he only ended up with his bag crushed by the rear wheel. According to him, this only happened because he bought some cheap ratchet straps, which undone and let the luggage fall off the bike’s tail.

So remember you get yours from a respectable company, strap your luggage firmly and don’t let any cords or strings hanging off near to moving bike parts. Your life depends on it.
