Spyshots: Volkswagen Touareg Facelift
Launched in 2010, the second generation never quite managed to fill the first model's shoes, and as a consequence its rivals are creeping in on its market segment. Instead of opting for VW's brand of luxury, even European customers are going for the things like American Jeep Grand Cherokee with a Fiat diesel V6.
An update is urgently needed, especially since BMW recently unveiled its new X5 which has cheaper base models as well.
These are the very first spyshots of the Touareg facelift, rumored to debut a year from now. Volkswagen will have to introduce the modern safety systems that luxury car buyers demand nowadays. They will also make some cosmetic changes, though it's not clear how much of the Golf 7's styling will be borrowed.
As for the engines, we've heard that the baae V6 TDI BlueMotion with 204 PS will be swapped for the 2.0 TDI engine, either the 184 used by the Golf GTD or a newer, more powerful version to be developed for the Audi A4. Power output for the other 3.0 TDI V6 will be boosted from the current 240 to 260 PS with a slight improvement in torque as well.
