Spyshots: Toyota Yaris Facelift Getting Xenon Headlights

The Toyota Yaris has never been all that popular in Europe. There are better looking cars, faster cars and cheaper cars in its segment. Maybe the previous generation had a chance because it looked cute, but the new model doesn't even have that.

Since most supermini buyers are opting for the new Ford Fiesta, Peugeot 208 or Renault Clio, Toyota has no choice but to update the its Yaris, even though it's only about two years old right now.

This is the second time we caught up with the Yaris facelift test prototype. However, since the photos were taken from much closer, the details are more evident.

The first thing we noticed is that the headlights are now xenon, something most cars in this class don't have. Xenon is expensive to buy and maintain, so we could be looking at a higher trim level here. Upon closer inspection, the grille appears to be a black honeycomb mesh, which doesn't match the Yaris' character at all. There are two different prototypes in the photo gallery below, and one could be a hot version of the Yaris.

Back in 2002, way before they replaced the Corolla hatch with the Auris, there was a hot hatch called the Corolla TS, which rivaled the first generation Clio RS and the Honda Civic Type R, the boxy one everybody seems to like.
