Malaysian automaker Proton is keen to put its past mistakes behind it and come up with a car that it can not only sell back home, but also in Europe. Codenamed P2-30A GSC (Global Small Car), this replacement for the Savvy has been spotted on a number of occasions in the past.
However, a prototype left parked after a winter session provided out spy photographer ample opportunity to snap the first shots of the interior. The GSC has leather seating, with the front buckets looking suspiciously like the ones Volkswagen offers. The dashboard is dominated by a large 2-DIN infotainment screen with a silver surround and three dials for the automatic climate control. The buttons below the infotainment screen indicate Proton's hatchback has parking sensors and ESP. Our spies previously told us that Continental was working with Proton on the ESP system.
It's obvious that the gearbox is automatic, most likely a CVT which Proton seems to favor. Below the Drive mode, there's an L, which could be a simulated low gear mode necessary for winter driving.
Automatic gearboxes offered as standard are rare in the supermini segment, so a five-speed manual will likely also be offered. The engine connected to either of these boxes is rumored to be a 1.2-liter with 75 horsepower, similar to the Renault-sourced engine offered by the Savvy in the past.
Look for an official debut of this towards the end of 2014.
