Spyshots: Porsche 918 Spyder Spotted testing in US

We’ve always wondered why Porsche built so many prototypes of the Porsche 918 Spyder. There’s at least five of them out there, and we part of the reason if getting publicity. Models in various color configurations have been spotted testing o the Nurburgring for about a year now, and recently the automotive press got to experience it at a track day even.

But while that happens, two more cars were shipped half way across the world, where they took advantage of the worm weather and begun testing in the southwestern part of the United States. As the twins stopped for gas at Chevron our spy photographers captured these fresh photos.

These supercars are designed for to be very efficient but also extremely powerful, a showcase of what Porsche can do when money is no object. But you won’t be spending on gas, you’ll be using to buy the car. The 918 Spyder has already been announced to cost as much as $845,000 in the US and €645 in Europe before taxes and charges. That’s at least three times what a normal supercar goes for.
