The Porsche 911 is like a good book, in the sense that, with each new read, you receive yet another revelation. We’ve barely finished reading the 911 Targa, as this model was launched back in January in Detroit and yet Porsche is almost ready to release the revised edition.
Our spy photographers have recently crossed paths with a 911 Targa facelift test vehicle and the machine is pretty close to the production form. This probably means the Targa we met will remain in history as one-year only model.

This is not even the most puzzling matter about the upcoming Porsche 911 facelift - we’ll remind you the rumor mill states the revamp will skip the natural 991.2 chassis code, switching directly to the 992 generation name.

Returning to the spied 911 Targa facelift, the prototype sports all the visual features we’ve seen on other test cars. While the front apron brings the new active shutter grilles, the rest of the elements we’re talking about reach a whole new level on the Targa.

You see, this model is a visual nod to the original Targa of the s and can easily be labeled as the most retro-looking member of the 911 range. Thus, the new classic-look for the door handles and engine lid fit the car like a driving glove won by a works driver on a Sunday leisure drive.

The aura of mystery surrounding what should’ve been a simple mid-cycle refresh for the 911 becomes even deeper at the rear of the car. We’re referring to the engine compartment, which is expected to welcome turbocharged powerplants outside the usual Turbo and GT2 badge. We’re talking about Zuffenhausen’s turbocharged four-cylinder engine plan here.

As for the aforementioned 911 GT2, we don’t even know if Porsche is going to give us a new incarnation of the car.

The aforementioned 992 rumor also states the 911 facelift will make its debut at at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. Our chronographs have just entered the “Sport Plus” mode...
