PSA has made incremental steps towards recovery, waiting for the right moment when the European auto market bounces back. They did a complete rethink of the supermini car and launched a smaller, lighter 208, followed by an innovative new niche model, the 2008 crossover. At the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show, the 308 compact hatch made its presence felt as well, pointing the way in the French compact segment.
Today, we received a fresh set of photos which show a sedan version of the 308 masked by heavy camouflage. Simply calling it the 308 Sedan would be sort of wrong in our opinion.

First of all, there's already a 301 sedan on sale, targeting the affordable market, and there could be a bit of confusion. Besides that, anybody who's ever owned a 407 and thought it was a nice car will want this thing to be a successor and to be called the 408. Hopefully, the French have enough common sense to see that.

Peugeot currently offers a 408 sedan. It's an outdated model, a version of the older 308 hatch stretched by 100 mm and offered to in places lie China, South America and Russia.

Whatever it's called, the compact Peugeot sedan will compete against the Skoda Octavia and should offer the same engines as the 308: 1.2 VTi 82, plenty of versions of the 1.6 THP and 1.6 HDi plus maybe a decent 2-liter HDi as well. The French automaker's EMP2 platform should allow this car to be quite light.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
