Last year, BMW decided to give the 7 Series its mid-life makeover, or as they like to call it "Life Cycle Impulse". Changed were made to the headlights of the car that made this full size luxury car look a little bit fresher.
Although new engines were also launched, with more power and better economy, the 7 Series still is pretty much the same car.

The good news is that BMW is so committed to the 7 Series that they've already begun work on the next generation. These are most likely the first spy photos showing the 6th-gen model in prototype form.

We believe this early prototype is actually that little bit smaller than the current F01 7 Series. When the current car came out in January 2008 it was criticized for being too large, and the Bavarians might also be targeting lower emission through weight reduction.

We expect the new 7er will come with the same sort of advanced gizmos as the next X5 SUV, also undergoing testing. This should include technology that will allow the car to drive pretty much unaided, as well as things like pedestrian airbags, a plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

The new 7 Series will take advantage of BMW's investment into carbon fiber technology. The use of lightweight materials is being pioneered by the i3 city car, and will help the G11 7er shed as much as 450 lbs, or just over 200 kg.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
