The Audi Q7 is perhaps one of the oldest surviving models in Audi's inventory, but even this granddaddy of the full-size luxury SUV segment needs to retire sooner or later.
Expected to be revealed late in 2014, the second generation Audi Q7 has begun testing already. These spy photos preview the changes which we'll be seeing on the next SUV. This test vehicle appears to be a test mule. We say that because the headlights have the same wave patter seen on the pre-facelift Audi A4 sedan. We think Audi would't dare use that old design language and instead will offer the simple yet elegant shape of the Matrix LED system which we'll see on the A8 in a few days.
But with the second-gen Q7 it's what's under the skin that matters. Audi will use aluminum and carbon reinforced plastic to shave as much as 350 kilograms off the current model's hefty body. A completely new architecture has been developed for the large SUV, which will be shared with the next VW Touareg and Porsche Cayenne.
