Although this is the first time we've been able to see this fully built up prototype for the next VW Golf Plus, we are by no means blind to what's under the covers.
Volkswagen has yet to let slip any interesting tidbits about the car, but as true VAG connoisseurs that's not rally a problem for us. To be honest, the Golf Plus isn't exactly our favorite car ever, but if we were in the market for an MPV-type vehicle that's still compact, it would be on the list. Compared to a regular Golf you have a lot more space to relax, and compared to a Variant, it's shorter and better to use around town.
The new Golf Plus is expected to come out to plate late next year. It will undoubtably be based on the MQB architecture and will be powered by all sort of different engines, ranging from a base 1.2-liter TSI with 85 hp to a very decent 2.0-liter TDI with 150 hp. Who know, we might even have hybrids and plug-ins. DSG will be available, and there's no reason why the new, lighter 4Motion tech can't be used.
Although thickly padded in camouflage, this prototype does let us peak at the design. The headlights clearly have two U-shapes each, just like on the Golf. The wheel design is also taken directly from the Golf, but the tailgate is something completely new. It's an absolutely huge opening that takes the whole taillights with it. If you have an Ikea flatpack to take home, you'll love that!
