The first glimpses of the interior have been captured by the camera and they really allow us to better understand what's going on. As we suspected, the new Caddy is based on the old one. For example, its leather-wrapped steering wheel is about the same as before, as is part of the upper dash.

The only major component that's changed is the navigation and infotainment system, which obviously features the same technology and design as the Golf 7. Above that, the controls for the air conditioning and heater are new and mounted higher up.

One Golf part doesn't make a whole Golf though. The Caddy is not based on the MQB platform, but could have an updated version of the PQ35 that underpinned the old model. Access to the latest TDI and TSI engines will be grated.

These will include a new 1.4-liter diesel with three cylinders, replacing the 1.6, a new 2-liter TDI with 150 hp and a 1.2 TSI turbo range with BueMotion energy-recuperation tech. Fuel consumption is expected to drive by an average of 10% across the range.

There's reason to believe the old 2-liter natural gas powered version will be replaced by a new 1.4-liter turbo based on the 122 hp TSI, but making only 110 hp. It's already been offered on a number of VW Group models, including the Octavia G-TEC whic Skoda just launched.

No big surprises in the looks department. This new Caddy looks exactly like the old one from the side. The only outer changes are going to target the bumpers and headlights. Expect all to be reavealed in 2015 when the Caddy will be joined by an all-new T6 Transporter.
