Suzuki isn't the second-rate manufacturer some people tend to label it. With 35 operating plants worldwide and a combined production output of vehicles and motorcycles that rivals with the top 10 big boys in the biz, the Japanese company is not to be taken lightly. But it's a little hard to do such a thing considering how old its automotive lineup is.
Alto, Splash, Swift, Jimny, Grand Vitara, all models except the SX4 S-Cross and new Vitara are as old as Methuselah, but Suzuki is planning to rejuvenate its lineup in the years to come. Suzuki previously announced a new or updated car will be launched every year for the following five years, one of them coming in the form of a B-segment hatchback our carparazzi spotted in prototype guise in Europe.
Although Suzuki is keeping its lips tightly shut about such a model, the spied vehicle's proportions hint it will be slotted between the Swift and SX4 S-Cross. While the tail lamps seem to be inspired by 1990s Kia vehicles, it's a given the production model will adopt a more contemporary design. Though heavily camouflaged, the rear hatch and high roof line are tell-tale signs this car boasts with MPV credentials, similar to what Suzuki did with the Splash city car.
Expected to be officially unveiled early next year and arrive in dealerships later in 2015, the mystery B-segment hatchback will be Suzuki's weapon in a class full of Volkswagen Polo, Skoda Fabia, Honda Jazz, Nissan Note, Renault Clio and many more. In terms of mechanicals, we don't expect anything less than a Swift-derived platform, four-pot gasoline mills and a five-speed manual transmission as standard.
