Renault is working together with Daimler on the next generation Twingo, which will share its underpinnings with the next smart fortwo and forfour. We've said in the past that this could be a revival of the R5, but we'll leave the speculation regarding the name of the car aside for a moment to focus on these fresh spyshots.
Bits of the camo have been stripped off the Twingo test vehicle, revealing interesting facts about the car. For starters, we can tell that the rear windows don't wind down. They're too big to fit inside the door and will open outward slightly instead. This is clearly a cost-cutting measure on Renault's part.
But what's strange is the new Twingo doesn't look like a budget car. It has sharply cut alloy wheels and the prototype is fitted with Pirelli tires. They also fitted hidden door hinges at the back, like Alfa Romeo used to do. But behind the sexy wheels, the Twingo shows its cost cutting nature once more. The rear brakes are drums and the front ones are very small disks.
The new Twingo will debut next year at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. We believe it will come with two versions of the 0.9-liter engine and possibly with a 1.5 dCi as well.
