Spyshots: New Range Rover Sport

The new Range Rover Sport was spotted with body camouflage as well as a ‘masked’ front end. It is clearly different to yesterday’s set of spyshots of the ‘big’ Range Rover, as this particular car has a completely different profile and proportions, with a more steeply raked windscreen and an Evoque-esque sloping rear window. Another difference is the body camouflage used, as this one is already pixelized around the edges, giving the impression that the pictures are of poor quality.

We were sad to see the current generation car’s high-set dashboard still present, though, as it is a ‘trick’ played by the manufacturer on its potential buyers, making the SUV feel sportier than it really is, by fooling the driver into thinking that the seating position is nice and low, when it really isn’t. The old car had a thick black line running along the bottom of the windscreen to hide the dash, and this does too, but to a smaller extent.

Engines-wise, expect the exact range of powerplants to be carried over from the old ‘Sport’, but also expect them to be more frugal and quicker as the new car is expected to be considerably lighter. However, if Tata Motors Land Rover want it to have mass appeal, they need to give it a four-pot diesel, and the best only candidate is the 2.2-liter diesel currently powering the Jaguar XF and the Evoque - this is just speculation, but it would be foolish of them not to consider the option.
