Spyshots: New Ford Galaxy

Ford started making its 5-door large MPV in 1995 asa a joint venture with Volkswagen. The Blue Oval brand got the Galaxy and Volkswagen got the Sharan and the SEAT Alhambra. A major redesign came in 2000 and was marketed as a second generation thanks to new design and engines.

The third generation model came 6 years later, in 2006, and will be discontinued this year. This is a test mule which previews the fourth generation Galaxy. It will use the platform of the new Mondeo/Fusion and offer the best EcoBoost engines available, including the 1.0 EcoBoost, the 1.5 EcoBoost and possibly a 2.0 EcoBoost with 231 hp as well.

There will also be new diesel variants, although we'll have to wait for the new Mondeo to come out before we can figure those out.

Ford is facing issues with production overcapacity in Europe, which have already pushed back a number of projects, so it's hard to say exactly when the new Galaxy will come to market.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
