Mercedes will soon unveil a brand new concept in go-fast motoring. Forget about the Audi S3, the BMW 135i and the VW Golf R, what you need is the AMG version of the new A-Class hatchback. It will be called the A45 AMG, in honor of the 45th anniversary of the division, but the bad news is it’s not coming to the US.

That because American supposedly doesn’t “get” small hatchbacks. But a sedan model based on the same MFA platform will also spawn a four-door coupe/sedan called the CLA. This should be a great addition to the US lineup, slotting under the C-Class and targeting younger buyers that would otherwise have been lost.

We can now say with certainty the CLA will also become a hot AMG model, the first ever sold in the US with a four-cylinder turbo engine and all wheel drive. Yes, you heard right, the CLA45 AMG will have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor which is expected to put out about 340 horsepower and diesel-like levels of torque.

It will be coupled to a AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to a Haldex differential.

This prototype for the hot sedan shows it’s wide and has larger air intakes at the front, which not only make the car look cooler but also channel air to the force-fed engine.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
