Spyshots: Mercedes Benz Working on Baby-CLS
Well here it ladies and gentlemen in all its glory! The production version of the car was recently spotted while undergoing road testing for the first time, as far as we know, ahead of its expected arrival in the second half of 2013. The all important four-door will have to take on competition from both the BMW 1-Series and more importantly the Audi A3 sedan on the US market, and let’s not forget the Passat CC, which is going to get a facelift soon.
Very little is know about the model at the moment, and various sources are logically calling it the BLS, since it’s smaller than the CLS. However, the name could actually be the CLA or CLC, due to the fact that Cadillac used to have a model know as the BLS.
Despite the naming confusion, the four-door will sit in the new B-Klasse range, which will also include a small van-like model and even a compact crossover called the BLK. This means that the car is actually another front-wheel drive model based on the new MFA (Mercedes Frontwheel Architecture).
The prototype we see here is dressed in a heavy camouflage but we can make out the basic contours of this compact sedan turned coupe - basically a road-going version of the F800 concept. We can expect to see the new four-door to arrive at the end of 2013 as a 2014 model year.
