Spyshots: Mercedes B-Class Electric Drive

German automaker Mercedes Benz remains committed to electric mobility. The three-pointed star brand has shied away making bespoke electric cars like BMW’s i3, but its B-Class Electric Drive promises to be just as impressive.

The Achilles heel of all electric cars seems to be the cold, which just like with your mobile phone, runs short on juice if chilled. So naturally, we took interest in the fact that the B-Class was spotted testing in Norther Sweden, near the arctic circle.

The B-Class Electric Drive was shown at the Paris Motor Show as a pre-production concept. It is motivated by a electric motor producing 100 kW or 134 PS and 310 Nm of torque. The car is fitted with the same lithium-ion battery as the Tesla Model S, placed low in the car for optimal balance.

On a full charge, it will be good for about 200 kilometers (124 miles) and will be available with a fast-charging function that’s fills the battery to half-capacity in under an hour.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
