Nowadays, superminis are supposed to be practical cars with decent space for passengers and luggage. But they weren't always like that. In 2011, the all-new Lancia Ypsilon marked the return of the glory days where small cars were all about looking cute and 4 years on, updates are being made.
Unfortunately, the Lancia brand isn't too long for this world and will soon be discontinued in most markets. But because Fiat dumped so much money into the development of the Ypsilon, they've decided to keep making it for a few more years.

The Polish factory in Tychy will stop Ypsilon production in 2018, so the facelift should be ready to debut this year in order to make financial sense.

The prototype photographed in Sweden has been heavily camouflaged, but we can still see that it's got a new front bumper, headlights, grille and uses LED technology to find its way though the dark.

At the rear the changes should focus mainly on the lower part of the bumper, where trim will be added, and updating the optics of the headlights. Meanwhile, the Ypsilon's interior could bring a breath of fresh air with the introduction of the Uconnect Radio nav 6.5-inch touchscreen with DAB digital radio integration. Unfortunately, the speedometer and rev counter are still in the middle of the car, just the way we DON'T like it.

The engines will closely mirror those of the Fiat 500 Facelift, which is also getting a facelift, with small updates in terms of fuel consumption and emissions of existing engines. Expect the 0.9 TwinAir 2-cylinder, 1.2-liter LPG mill and 1.3-liter MultiJet diesel to carry over.

At least for the next 3 years, the Ypsilon will also continue to be available in RHD markets like Japan and the UK as a Chrysler.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
