Our spy photographers in Italy have have managed to snap the first clear photos of Jeep’s long rumored B-SUV, which has been dubbed the Jeep Junior and Jeepster by the media. Test vehicles have been spotted on a number of occasions before, but they were always Fiat 500L-based prototypes. The Junior is in fact based on the same platform as the L and a future Fiat model called 500X.
The design of the 500X and Junior will be different, but both cars will probably be built in Italy on the same assembly line. The design is quite boxy, similar to a tall MPV or van.
Engine options will of course depend on the market where it’s sold. In America, either a regular TigerShark or a .14-liter MultiAir Turbo with 160 HP will be offered. Europeans will probably prefer Fiat’s 1.6-liter MutiJet with diesel, which is already used by the small Suzuki SX4 S-Cross SUV.
For a clearer picture of the Junior’s proportions, you guys should check out the leaked patent images of the 500X that emerged on a Chinese website a few days ago. There’s an uncanny resemblence between the taillights of that car and our spyshots.
