If car were judged on beauty alone, the Focus would we a 5 and its smaller brother, the Fiesta (facelift) would be at least an 8. Fortunately, they aren't, but that still doesn't mean the Mk3 doesn't need a cosmetic makeover.
We don't yet know what Ford has planned for the Focus Facelift, but we do know there should be major tech changes since they've been testing their prototypes for a very long time. Only recently, this model was spotted on the really hot roads of Spain.
Our man with the long lens correctly points out that the large triangular intakes on the side of the main grille have been removed. They were mainly there for show, but it will be interesting to see how they balance out the design without them. The answer seems to be an Audi-like tall grille with a gloss black license plate holder in the middle. Could be nice, but could be ugly as well.
On the tech side, this car has pretty much every engine it needs. On this subject, Ford recently announced a third version of the 1-liter EcoBoost was on its way which still had 100 PS but produced less than 100 grams of CO2 per kilometer. Strangely enough, they also used some of the oldest press photos of the Focus in existence. We think that engine will only be put into the Focus once the facelift is out, which could be very soon.
