Spyshots: Chevrolet Aveo-Based Compact SUV
The biggest of these is the headlight assembly, which shows a clear resemblance to the Aveo or Sonic. We expected this car to be developed at the automaker’s test acility in Korea which was also the birth place of the Chevrolet Cruze and the Chevrolet Beat, but here it is, on European roads.
The first details of this joint project emerged back in 2009, when it was suggested the automaker wanted to sell at least 200,000 units every year in order to make it successful. “Anything below that wouldn’t make economic sense as we wouldn’t then be able to fill a factory," General Motors manager Bob Lutz said at the time.
We expect this car to reach showrooms in the later part of next year. It should be aimed at the budget customers in Europe in order to make room for Opel’s more upmarket approach.
The small SUV will feature the automotive producer’s new “dual cockpit” design, which was introduced with the Cruze compact saloon. The company will also make significant efforts to increase the level of quality in the color and trim area.
The engine range should be carried over from its hatchback brothers, as should the transmission options. We can also expect to see front wheel drive version making up the base offerings.
