You know how they say ice skating and ballet make for really sexy legs? Yeah, well that's really creepy, staring at women's ankles all day. But the point is that BMW has a new roadster coming up, and we have photos of it undergoing some ice skating lessons in Northern Europe.
There isn't much ice left on this continent, so BMW has to use a frozen lake with a special track carved out. The Z5 is not your typical winter car, but everything needs to be able to stand up to nature's worst conditions.

Because she's wearing a full-length skirt, otherwise known as camouflage, we can't tell if the Z5 looks better than the Z4 or not. We think looks are more important than ever, now that Porsche has turbo engines everywhere.

The latest rumor suggests that the Z5 will share its platform with the Toyota GT 86, the next one. That's total rubbish since Subaru has just begun talking with the Prius folks about another Toyobaru.

But the car we've been calling the Z5 is undoubtedly linked to that particular deal BMW and Toyota signed and forgot to detail. It might mean the Z5 is a hybrid car with all-wheel drive, or that it's related to the next Supra.

The fact that it's a convertible may be the only thing this car shares with its predecessors. BMW has switched from an excellent folding metal roof to a regular rag-top. The people who make multi-layer canvas tents say they offer superior insulation. But we just think the shiny metal roof made BMW special in the industry.

Because of the snow and the camouflage, it's hard to get a good read on the Z5's design. But the proportions are that of a classic roadster, with a long hood and short rear deck. It's got an exhaust pipe on each side and the wheels aren't too wide, so it's not your M4 super sports coupe.

Because this car is being co-developed by two companies, it may be subjected to delays. At best, we could be looking at a new BMW roadster arriving in 2017 or early 2018. Only time will tell if it's got one engine option like the i8 or many like all the other Bimmers.
